The Awty International School Board currently consists of 27 trustees out of a maximum of 30 provided for in our By-Laws. The By-Laws also require that included in the 30 are four “ex-officio” trustees: two representatives of the Mission Laïque Française, the French Consul General and the French Cultural Attaché. Eighteen trustees are parents, four are former parents and nine are francophone. Eight are senior executives with companies that have employees with significant numbers of children at the school. There are seven mothers of students on the board. Trustees’ backgrounds are diverse ranging from business leaders to individual entrepreneurs, engaged in professions relating to investment banking, law, architecture, financial and project management, real estate and energy, among others. The Awty Parents and Personnel Association (APPA) and Alumni Association Presidents are trustees for their terms of office. Median term of service on the board is approximately three years and four Trustees have been on the board over nine years.
The board meets six times a year and has a weekend retreat once a year to discuss strategic matters. Board meeting agendas include operating reports from the Head of School and Proviseur as well as reports from the Chairs of each of seven Board Committees. Specific items of business include election of trustees, approval of annual budget, approval of major capital projects and approval periodically of strategic and policy initiatives.
