General information
The Awty International School provides, in cooperation with NTC Houston, Dutch lessons for students in Group 1 to 6 VWO (pre-school - 12th grade). Classes take place daily, as part of the regular school day.

In addition, Awty offers an afterschool program for students of schools where Dutch is taught. Recently, we started the preparations for a primary school program, the equivalent of grades 1 and 2 in the Dutch system which will start in August 2008. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who earnestly wants to contribute to the continuity and quality of our program.

Teacher Functions
•  Gives lessons in the Dutch language and culture to students in Group 1 to 7 and will ensure the after-school program (two afternoons per week)
•  Devise lesson plans in accordance with the Dutch curriculum
•  Creates a safe and stimulating learning environment
•  Administers Cito and DMT-tests
•  Is aware of innovations in the Dutch education

Teacher Profile
•  Licensed to teach all grades of the Dutch primary school (PABO-degree)
•  Full responsibility for executing the primary school curriculum
•  At least three years teaching experience (recent), preferably with different age groups
•  An excellent command of the English language, both oral and written
•  Experience abroad is viewed as a plus

Teacher Characteristics
•  Enthusiastic, motivated and self-employed
•  Good ICT skills
•  Be able to understand the specific needs of children who have been living abroad for a long time
•  Prepared to run our after-school-program
•  Actively contribute to a good cooperation within the school

Head of College Counseling 2008-2009

The Awty International School seeks a Head of College Counseling for the School Year 2008-2009.

This is a senior position in a flourishing department reporting to the Head of School and Head of Upper School with the responsibility for overseeing and directing a program of college advisement and placement, for the students in the Upper School. The Head of College Counseling directs a team of two College Counselors, the Registrar and an Administrative Assistant.

The Head of College Counseling leads and manages all aspects of the school's academic guidance activities (student academic counseling and college preparation) for our 90+ graduates yearly.

The job includes providing information and making material available for applications and admissions tests, to provide relevant documentation for each student and, most importantly, to provide personalized one-on-one counseling for each family.

Qualifications:
•  The applicant will, ideally have experience in applications for North American and European Universities. 
•  Knowledge of criteria for college/university placement in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe is required to meet the needs of the international families in the school.
•  Experience as a senior administrator in an IB School will be useful.
•  Master's Degree required.

Characteristics:

•  Strong organizational ability and the ability to meet deadlines.
•  Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse and demanding student and parent population.
•  Knowledge of colleges, their academic programs, admission policies, and financial policies and procedures.

Duties:
•  The Head of College Counseling arranges for meetings with parents and students of all four grades in the Upper School, to provide them with information that will help in preparing for higher education. Typically, these meetings are held after school, to enable working parents to attend. Occasionally, meetings need to be run for students only during the assembly period.
•  To address the needs of all the students, the Head of College Counseling must provide information to cover the requirements for entry into colleges in the USA, UK and Canada. To accommodate the needs of the students and parents from the French section, one meeting is held with French translations provided.
•  The Head of College Counseling must be familiar with and provide details regarding the major admissions test in the USA, namely the SAT, ACT and the TOEFL. Registration material for these tests must be provided in the college counseling office as well as information about online registration.
•  The Head of College Counseling is responsible for the administration of the PSAT to all tenth and eleventh graders in October, each year. This involves ordering the test material and conducting the test in accordance to regulations set out by the Educational Testing Services of the College Board.
•  The Head of College Counseling ensures that the test reports of the PSAT, along with the test booklets, are mailed to the parents in January.
•  The Head of College Counseling schedules visits by Admissions Representatives from as many universities and colleges as possible and arranges for students to meet these admissions counselors.
•  In conjunction with the other private schools in the ISAS, the Head of College Counseling helps to arrange the Spring College Fair for students and parents of the eleventh grade.
•  The Head of College Counseling maintains an up to date collection of brochures, videos and application forms from institutions in the USA, Canada, the UK and some countries in Europe.
•  Working closely with the IB coordinator, the Head of College Counseling must be conversant with the acceptance of the IB and the advantage it provides the students for university acceptance in the different countries.
•  The Head of College Counseling works closely with the Registrar, in making a schedule for the preparation of Transcripts in the senior class.
•  The Head of College Counseling must ensure that all documentation from the school is mailed in time to reach institutions by their stated deadlines.
•  The Head of College Counseling is responsible for updating the School Profile.
•  The Head of College Counseling writes a reference for each senior who requires it as part of the School Report or application form for university.
•  The Head of College Counseling encourages students at the end of the senior year, to agree to release their college/university records for their first year, to satisfy the requirement of providing the ISAS with tracking information of graduated students.
•  The most important function of the Head of College Counseling is to provide one on one counseling for each student in the junior (and senior) class. Starting from spring of the junior year, each family meets with the Head of College Counseling, to draw up a plan of action and a tentative list of college choices, which has to be followed through in the senior year. Suggestions for college visits, preparing resumes, college essays are all dealt with in these meetings.
•  The Head of College Counseling prepares a handbook, which gives detailed instructions of the process of selecting and applying to institutions in the USA.
•  Manage the department budget.
