The Awty International School is a non-profit private PK-12 school with an excellent reputation, located in Houston – the fourth largest city in the US. Its students have backgrounds from almost 60 countries in all parts of the world, and it is now the second largest international school in the United States. Awty has been successfully teaching the IB Diploma Program since January 1987.
Awty offers a truly unique environment that challenges and inspires all of its students to fulfill their potential through a solid educational program leading to either the International Baccalaureate or French Baccalauréat diploma. Students in both programs must meet the requirements for an American high school diploma, which includes credits in fine arts, computer science and American history.
Awty’s distinctiveness rests upon four key pillars. First, the School has a truly international focus, building on the extensive cultural diversity of its students and teachers to prepare students for effective participation in tomorrow’s globalised world. Second, the School places strong emphasis on authentic excellence in its academic programs, fostering a culture of high expectations in all activities. Third, Awty takes the task of forming ‘the whole person’ very seriously, encouraging full participation in a wide range of creative, sporting, service and cultural pursuits. Fourth, Awty is much more than just a school, being an active, involved and vibrant community of students, parents and educators.
In a diverse international culture, Awty takes its aim seriously to form well-educated and genuine responsible world citizens who become true lifelong learners. Teachers encourage students to be independent thinkers, prepared to live in a global society and to continue to perform meaningful community service. A dedication to the IB Learning Profile in all facets of the Awty community contributes to the intellectual growth and academic success of every student. Co-curricular activities include the student newspaper, orchestra, Model United Nations, Interscholastic Athletics and student government, among many others. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at The Awty International School consistently records excellent results.
In classes with small sizes, the Awty curriculum gives full attention to all areas of the IB hexagon. Group One and Two languages are taught by native speakers. We have various languages available and try to plan classes according to the needs of our students. All students must take two languages and may study a third if desired.
Group Three allows students to select economics, history or psychology. In Group Four, students may choose among four sciences: biology, chemistry, physics and environmental systems and societies. In Group Five, mathematics is offered at three levels. In Group Six, students can choose between visual arts, theatre or music. It is allowed to study an extra language, a subject from group three or an additional science instead of a course in the arts. All the other requirements for the IB Diploma, such as Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) are also addressed with the same high level of instruction and guidance.
The Awty International School promotes a strong sense of values among its students that is based on care, concern and compassion for others, profound international understanding and a very deep sense of the importance of community. In brief, Awty is committed to offering its students an educational experience that is truly life-defining.
