The Awty International School announces the appointments of Jayce Lewis (Basketball), Tom Quitzau (Swimming), and Robert Sload (Track & Field) as new program heads for the 2012-13 school year.
“There is a confidence in all three coaches and I believe they all bring a number of key attributes to their respective programs,” said Awty's Director of Athletics John Hoye.
“When seeking Awty program heads we did not need to look far as all three have key leadership qualities, proven success in participating and coaching and, above all, have an established trust with the students and parents alike. There are additional aspects that stand out including their desire to develop both the players and their program, they all have sound goals with strategies to achieve them, a proven sense of what it takes to be successful, and most importantly, they are fundamentally solid individuals that will serve as excellent examples to all of our students,” added Hoye.
Coach Lewis, who is a former student athlete at Awty, served the last three years as a middle school, junior varsity, and varsity assistant coach with the basketball program. Prior to coaching, Lewis played collegiately at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. As a Ram, Lewis set the season and career assist record while playing point guard. He led Awty to consecutive final four births, earning two all-state nominations and leading the Rams to three district championships.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to work with players and coaches at each level of our program here at Awty,” said Lewis. “I’m confident that together we will build a basketball program that will allow our students to compete to the best of their ability.”
Quitzau, who led the Rams to their first state swimming championship in 2011, will return to lead the swimming program whose girls, in 2012, finished as state runner-up. .
“Both boys and girls swimming teams will be very competitive this season,” said Quitzau. “I am eager to get back in the pool and work with both the veteran swimmers and those who are new to the program. One thing that I really missed is the way our team bonded when I was coaching. When students work as a true unit, it is very satisfying.”
Quitzau, and the boys and girls swim teams, dive into action on October 6, at the Tomball Early Fall Invitational.
Robert Sload, who also serves as the program head for cross country, will assume leadership of the track and field program this spring. Sload has coached with the track & field program for the past ten years, and due to scheduling conflicts, has accepted being the program head.
“We have a great wealth of knowledge in our coaching staff with everyone having competed at the collegiate level. It is a great situation for our athletes where they can, with commitment, reach their full potential.”
