Athletic Staff Bios

JOHN HOYE, DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
John Hoye has been at The Awty International School since 2001, serving as a Physical Education Instructor and the Rams’ Head Boys Basketball Coach before transitioning to the Director of Athletics in the fall of 2012. He also assisted the Head of Middle School, working as the sixth grade coordinator. Prior to his tenure at Awty, John was an assistant Basketball Coach at Rice University in Houston, TX. John started his coaching career at University High, in Baton Rouge, LA where he helped to lead U-High to consecutive state final four berths. John holds an undergraduate degree in elementary education from Louisiana State University and masters of education in Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies from the University of Houston. He stays active and enjoys competitive races, scuba diving, and fishing and is an avid organic gardener. John is a passionate fan of LSU, especially their football team, and his home state’s Green Bay Packers.

KILEY MUTHIG, SPORTS MEDICAL ADVISOR
Kiley Muthig started at Awty at the beginning of the 2007 school year. Prior to working at Awty she had been working in a local orthopedic surgeon’s office performing physical medicine and rehabilitation and performing outreach athletic training work with several youth sports organizations. After leaving her home in Southern California she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from the University of New Mexico in 2003. She became certified by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) Board of Certification in 2004 while working on her graduate degree at the University of Houston. While working on her master’s degree she also became an examiner for the NATA as well as becoming a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Texas. She likes to keep her summers busy working at several local and national sports camps, becoming a Red Cross instructor, as well as graduating from massage therapy school and earning her master’s in sports psychology. She is committed and passionate about creating a strong sports medicine program for the students at Awty.

LEAH FOSTER, ASSISTANT TO THE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
Leah Foster joined The Awty International School Athletics staff as the program’s administrative assistant in October of 2007. She has more than 10 years experience in real estate administration in the Houston area and has also worked as an executive administrative assistant in various businesses in the greater Houston area. She and her husband, Kevin Foster, live in Houston. She spends much of her time away from The Awty International School enjoying outdoor activities with her husband and serving their church.

RYAN HARLAN, STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COORDINATOR
Ryan Harlan joined the Awty International School staff in 2011, bringing with him 8 years experience in training athletes at all levels in many different sports, with a focus on general strength, fitness, and correct technique. Prior to Awty, Ryan was an assistant track and field coach at the NCAA Division 1 level for 3 years at HBU, and before that Ryan was a volunteer assistant coach at Rice University for 3 years. He has also been competing professionally in track and field since his 2004 graduation from Rice University with a double major in Managerial Studies and Visual Art. While at Rice he was the 2000 Junior National Decathlon Champion and the 2004 NCAA National Decathlon Champion. Since graduating from Rice Ryan's professional Decathlon career has been very successful as in both 2005 and 2006 he was the USA National Indoor Heptathlon Champion and was ranked in the top 10 decathletes in the world both years. Following that Ryan was the 2nd place finisher in the Decathlon at the USA Outdoor Championships in both 2006 and 2011. He was a member of the IAAF World Championship USA Team 2011 (Daegu, South Korea) and the Pan-Am Games USA Team 2007 (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Ryan's extensive knowledge and experience at getting to and excelling at the highest athletic levels is a major asset to the Awty athletic program.
