Character Education
Senior-Freshman Girls' Night In - A popular tradition that encourages integration of the two sections of the school. A group of senior/terminale girls facilitate a variety of activities with the 9th/3ème grade girls designed to get to know one another and to prepare freshman girls for a successful experience in the Upper School.
Substance Abuse Prevention Program - Every Fall, an organization out of Boston called Freedom from Chemical Dependency (FCD) provides a four day substance abuse prevention program in which the 8th/4ème and 10th/2nde grades in both sections meet with FDC educators daily. Other grades have one meeting with the educators during the week. There is a Parent Meeting during the week to which all parent in the school are invited.
Sex Education - There are separate programs in the Spring for each section. The International Section has its program for the 6th and 9th grades on three consecutive Mondays. Expert educators in the community come in to provide this program. A Parent Meeting, to which all parents throughout the school are invited, precedes the program. A professional is brought in from France to facilitate a program for the French Section.
Growth and Development - A program is provided for the 5th grade/CM2 in collaboration with the nursing department.
We Help Ourselves (WHO) - This program is provided for students in kindergarten/GS and 3rd grade/CE2. It teaches about important safety measures and anti-victimization.
Real Life - A class provided by the counseling department for the 9th grade International Section. It meets once a week for one term. Topics addressed include self-discovery and self-expression, diversity, building confidence, and interpersonal skills.
Newcomer's Gatherings and Getting Together to Say Goodbye - For the Lower School, counselors facilitate transitions to Awty in the Fall and from Awty in the Spring.
Ancomm: Talk About It - This is a computer program that allows students to anonymously communicate with Counselors and Division Heads about matters of concern to them. It also includes a survey feature that allows us to conduct student surveys of all types.
