Welcome New Families
Welcome to the Awty community - it is wonderful to have you join us!
You are about to spend what we know will be a memorable time in a place that is much more than just a school. The Awty International School makes an international life possible not only for families who move around the world, but also for internationally-minded Houston-based families who want their children to be bilingual, to possess cross-cultural skills, and have a global outlook. Our school is important for each student who spends invaluable time here, for each family who is a part of our extended community, and for faculty and staff committed to these ideals. The opportunity ahead of you, whether you are a student new to Awty, or a family brand new to the school, is significant.
Our students do challenging work, make lifelong friends with teachers and one another, and grow through the myriad experiences Awty offers. Our families make great friends, extend their international circles, and also enjoy many events and experiences together, having fun through it all.
Right now, we know many of you want to know what the fall will look like and I would like to address this. I want you to know we are actively working to open the campuses, per the published schedule, for all students in August.
As you are well aware, guidance and recommendations continue to evolve. We will give you all the details as soon as they are finalized. For now, the safety measures we are anticipating include:
- organizing students in smaller, self contained classes,
- keeping groups intact during the day to minimize crossover among staff and faculty,
- spacing desks farther apart,
- social distancing,
- limiting those who come on campus to only the most essential,
- face coverings,
- temperature checks, and
- frequent handwashing.
We have and will continue to implement screening protocols and exemplary hygiene and cleaning practices.
This is not the way we usually do things at Awty where we seek as much interaction with as many different people as possible, but for this limited time period, we will follow the CDC and TEA guidance on how to best protect the health of our students and our employees. In addition to the CDC, we are also consulting and monitoring the recommendations from our accrediting bodies and our local, regional, national, and international education networks.
In July, we are offering limited summer school programming for our returning families. These programs will serve as a 'soft' reopening of campus with limited numbers of students in attendance each week. This time will allow us to get experience with our procedures and protocols and ensure we are prepared for the start of school. Please rest assured the health and safety of our community is, and will be, at the forefront of all we do.
Once again, we’re delighted to welcome you to the Awty community. For so many reasons, I could not be prouder to be part of this community than I am right now, or more affirmed and committed to the collective work we do together. We look forward to getting to know you in the months and years ahead.
The information, steps, and forms provided within these new family web pages are designed to assist you and smooth your entry into the school. Let us know if we can be of help to you in any way.
With warm regards,
Lisa A.H. Darling
