- On the first day of school, parents may walk their child to class. Please use available parking around the campus.
Afternoon carpool operates from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m.
Parents are required to complete the ELC Afternoon Transportation Form when they get their child's teacher's name in August. This form must be submitted prior to the start of school. This document indicates whether your child will be picked up in the ELC carpool, go to Awty Plus, ride a bus, or be transported to the main campus if he/she has siblings.
Click here to see the after school transportation options for your child at the ELC.
Students in PK3/PS and PK4/MS wear regular clothing. Please send to school with your child one change of clothes in a re-closable bag. Please label all items of clothing and the bag with the child's name. A change of clothes must be kept in the classroom throughout the school year.
Kinder/GS and 1st grade/CP students must wear the school uniform. Dennis Uniform is our provider and offers three convenient ways to shop:
- Shop online at: https://www.dennisuniform.com. Enter "Awty" and receive FREE shipping on orders over $50.
- Shop at their new store: Suite A, 7613 Katy Freeway, 77024.
- Call Customer Service at 800-854-6951 to place a phone order.
Please make sure your child's name is labeled on his/her uniform, sweaters, and jackets. Please review the Uniform Policy for details by grade level and division.
Sage Dining provides our meals daily. Our on-site chef prepares a daily menu of healthy snacks and lunch options. The cost is included with tuition. For more detailed information, visit the Sage Dining web page (available in August).
Please visit the Awty Plus section of the website for detailed information about our after-school program, which will run both at the ELC and on the main campus.
Stay and Play begins on the first day of school and starts at 2:50 p.m. providing supervised after-care until 6:00 p.m.
Awty Plus activities start the second week of school, offering specialty classes in a range of areas. Please refer to the list of Fall and Spring Term Activities and their descriptions for a representative sample. The updated list will be available in June.
Registration for Fall 2019 will open on August 12 for ELC and August 15 for Lower School at 11:00 a.m. You will be able to choose a combination of after care including Stay and Play and Awty Plus activities to suit your child's interests and your after-care needs.
All the required books and supplies for the Early Learners are included in the Book Fee and will be placed in the students’ classrooms before the first day of school.
PK3/PS, PK4/MS, K/GS STUDENTS
A “Green Awty Bag” will be provided to each student to bring back and forth to school. Since a bag is provided for your child, no backpacks or rolling bags are allowed for these students.
A “Cahier de Communication” (Communication Notebook) between parents and teachers will be sent home in the Green Bag each day.
PK3/PS children are provided with a cot, pillow, and linens labeled with their names for nap time. The linens go back home with your child every Friday to be washed and should be sent back to school with your child every Monday. Children entering this grade must be potty trained by the start of school. Please complete the online Acknowledgement of Potty Training Form by August 1.
1ST GRADE/CP STUDENTS
Parents are to supply their 1st grade/CP student with a book bag, backpack, or satchel that the child can carry on his/her own. A brand of school bag called ZUCA is not permitted for this grade and is not permitted on the yellow school buses.
A “Cahier de Communication” (communication notebook) between parents and teachers will be sent home in the school bag each day for CP students. Students in 1st grade have an agenda that goes home every day. The school provides the cahier and the agenda to students.
There is no better preparation for the start of school than reading. This is especially important for students preparing to enter first grade. The Houston Area Independent School Library Network (HAISLN), of which Awty is a member, prepares a list of recommended reading by age groups. Students should choose books from the list of the grade just completed, not the grade they will be entering in August. Children entering 1st grade should choose six books from the Preschool list; children entering CP should choose three.
SUMMER HANDWRITING PRACTICE
Students in 1st grade/CP at Awty practice and begin using lower case cursive letters for writing. To ease the transition for students who have not been exposed to cursive handwriting in Kinder/Grande Section, parents are encouraged to contact Stanley Way, Head of Early Learning, to receive a packet of lower case cursive letters used at Awty.
