Description coming soon!

For students in 2nd/CE1 - 5th/CM2.

BALLET & TAP CLASS

This class is divided into two age groups. Both, the three-year-old group and the four & five-year-old group have their own teacher and classroom for an optimum learning experience.

This class curriculum uses a skill progression system that incorporates movement, rhythm, coordination, musicality, and lots of fun. The basics of tap and ballet are taught with a focus on creativity. Dance technique is taught in a creative manner utilizing props such a scarves, tambourines, teddy bears, etc. While a creative teaching approach is instrumental in maintaining the young student's attention span, basic tap technique is taught to innovative rhythms -- jazz, mambo, reggae, Latin, and more. In the ballet segment of our class, French ballet terminology is introduced as well as the study of the Tchaikovsky ballets and various classical composers whose music is used in our class. Creativity is encouraged and embraced in our “Freeze Dance” segment, where the students choreograph his/her own dance moves.

There will be a dance performance in December and May for the students to showcase their dances to their families and friends!

Required Attire: Black leotard, pink tights, tan tap shoes with Velcro or buckle closures, pink leather ballet shoes, and a dance bag to hold all dance items. A black dance skirt is optional.

Baseball

This is a NEW Awty Plus activity beginning in August 2018!

The students will be taught the rules and basic fundamentals of baseball: throwing, catching, hitting and fielding. They will learn good sportsmanship when playing on a winning team and on a losing team.

Each class will begin with the children “playing catch” with a partner before we begin practicing one or more fundamentals using drills or mini games. Once the students prove they have the skills to play a game together, they will play a game each week.

This class is all-things-baseball while having FUN! They will be taught some baseball history and we will discuss current baseball events.

To prevent injuries, we will be using balls similar to baseballs, but not as hard.

Required: Baseball glove.

Recommended: Baseball cap or visor, athletic attire.

For students in 2nd/CE1 - 5th/CM2.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this activity, you may contact Coach Ryan.

BASKETBALL

Each week, we will begin class by focusing on a particular skill such as proper shooting form, dribbling, passing, or defense, as well as learning the rules of the game. Once we have practiced our skill of the day, various games are set up for them to play. Those who want to play a team game may do so and those who would rather play individual games such as "Around the World, H-O-R-S-E, 21, or Knock Out" may do so. We have four basketball goals set to different heights allowing plenty of room for everyone to do something fun at their skill level. The classes are rarely the same from week to week. Some days I may even have them all play a team game. Our class is usually concluded with “Basketball Trivia.” It’s a game I use to help them remember the game rules and to teach them about the world of basketball.

GYMNASTICS

Lower School Gymnastics

We bring everything a Gymnastics Club has to offer, to your school! Our friendly and experienced instructors mix great training with having lots of fun! Our class focuses on flexibility, strength building, and mastering new skills. In addition to many tumbling mats, we also use multi-height balance beams, the bar, the spring-board for vaulting, and many soft skill-assisting mats for safe fun and learning!

The skill level for this class ranges from level 1-3 meaning that we have children who begin by learning rolls and cartwheels and may progress to learning back-hand springs and cartwheels on the low balance beams. The elements for each event are taught in a progressive order. The more experienced students, who already know the beginner skills, will be grouped together to practice skills to fit their level. We teach the skills for bars, beam, vault and floor.

We play new music playlists every few months for the kids to enjoy while they warm-up (run), stretch, and practice their skills. The songs are new, old, and always upbeat to help them stay energized. They love it!

Attire: Your child needs to have a leotard for practice. Some prefer to wear shorts over their leotard, which is completely fine. Tights under the leotard or dress are NOT okay (unless they are footless). I have some leotards in stock if you'd like to buy some directly from us. More information regarding attire will be provided to participants.

Hair: If possible, please have your daughter's hair braided or in a bun, so they will be able to do bridges without it getting in the way.

For students in 2nd/CE1 - 5th/CM2.

Pre-K Gymnastics

Our classes are geared toward achieving goals, developing coordination, building self-confidence, gaining strength, flexibility, and most of all, HAVING FUN! We try to keep the class at a fast pace to keep the children’s attention as long as possible. With the exception of skill instruction with a demonstration, we keep their bodies moving!

We will be practicing tumbling skills that lead to accomplishments such as headstands, handstands, various rolls, and cartwheels! In addition to tumbling skills, we will be utilizing vaulting stations, bars, and multiple heights of balance beams. Our class is structured to achieve progressive skills for all ages and skill levels using the United States Gymnastics Association (USAG – the governing body of gymnastics in the USA) handbook.

Attire:

  • Girls must wear a leotard (any color) with gym shorts (optional) worn over it. If your daughter has long hair, please put her hair in a ponytail or bun on gymnastics day. No specific shoes are required.
  • Boys should wear shorts or athletic pants with a short-sleeved shirt. No specific shoes are required.

Certifications: Our lead Gymnastics Coach is KAT (Kinder Accreditation Training) and Safety certified through USAG, has CPR/First Aid certification, and is trained in “Safeguarding God’s Children” (a teacher’s training course offered through the Episcopal Church).
