The Middle School Student Council is comprised of twelve students elected by their peers in the fall semester of each new school year with two representatives from the International Section and two representatives from the French Section at grades 6, 7, and 8. The student council acts as a liaison between the student body and the Middle School administration. Its main purpose is to help student life at Awty be the best it can be. The council meets weekly in order to plan and organize special events such as the Annual Middle School Talent Show and Mix-It-Up Day as well as a variety of community service initiatives. The Lower School Student Council is comprised of 24 students elected by their peers in the fall semester of each new school year, with two representatives from each of the 4th grade/CM1 and 5th grade/CM2 homerooms. The student council represents the entire Lower School student body and acts as a liaison between the student body and the Lower School administration and staff. Its main purpose is to give the students a voice in Lower School life, provide students with leadership opportunities, and provide opportunities for work centered around philanthropy and charity. A key expectation for the Student Council representatives is that they will model the character and behavior we expect of our Lower School students, and serve as an example to their peers and to the younger students. The council meets twice a month to discuss homeroom and Lower School specific concerns, and to work on various projects and presentations.
Elections are held in the Fall.
