Welcome to the February 2018 issue of ACCENT. Inside this issue, we highlight Awty's largest special event, the 2018 Awty Gala - Sea the World. We've also included news from around campus, success stories among the faculty and student body, and our employee comings & goings.

The 2018 Awty Gala Co-chairs Pauline Huen, Glenna Sharafeldin, and Tara Tracy invite you to join members of the vibrant Awty community as we Sea the World at the 2018 Awty Gala. Prepare to be delighted by the sights and sounds of the sea and celebrate the wonderful global community that is The Awty International School.

The Ballroom at Bayou Place will be transformed into our very own underwater paradise, as we raise money in support of the school we love. We hope you will join us!

The fun will start with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a sumptuous seated dinner, live auction, fun entertainment, and music that will keep you dancing until 1:00 a.m.

PADDLES UP:
As many of you know, the Gala is Awty's largest fundraising event of the year. Due to the generosity of donors like you, we are able to offer students activities that go beyond the classroom basics and contribute to their personal development, as well as the professional development of our faculty. We invest every dollar back into our students!

The annual Gala helps fund student participation in the highly recognized National Honor Society, French National Contest, and Model United Nations. Finally, the Gala also supports the school's Faculty and Staff Development Fund, which is crucial to the continuing education of our educators. What happens at conferences, in summer courses, and on international learning trips, directly contributes to the education of your children. Gala attendees will get the opportunity to make a contribution toward this special fund after the Live Auction when we ask you to give online and raise your virtual Paddles Up.

LIVE AUCTION:
We know many of you are eagerly anticipating our live auction, where you will get the chance to bid on exciting items including trips to domestic, international, and exotic destinations.

Our auction features amazing trips and unique experiences that will transport you throughout the country and around the world to fabulous destinations including Mexico, Grand Cayman, Destin, and Bonaire, located in the Dutch Caribbean, the triumphant return of our Board Wine Cellar, and many more. These are all items not to be missed!

ONLINE AUCTION:
In addition to our events the night of the gala, there is another exciting gala highlight, the online auction.

The online auction opened at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, and is sure to tempt you with its unique and diverse offerings: lavish Houston experiences, premier seats to sporting events and artistic performances, Texas getaways, lush spa treatments, kid's items, parties just for adults, and so much more! You won't want to miss the opportunity to take home one of these packages. Awty Adventures, Sociables, and Grade Level Baskets will be available exclusively online.
